BACKFLOW PREVENTION INSPECTION & TESTING
INCOMA Engineering provides IAPMO certified Backflow Prevention inspection & testing and certification services based on manufacturer and jurisdictional requirements for all applications, including potable water, fire protection and irrigation systems.
INCOMA is experienced and certified to install, service and test cross connection prevention devices. Our backflow technicians are trained and certified by The International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials (IAPMO).
Our services include inspection and testing the backflow device, flushing the assembly, verifying proper function of the reduced pressure zone or double detector check device, tagging for the current year and reporting any repairs that may be indicated.
What is Backflow?
Backflow is the unintended flow of water in the opposite direction in your pipeline or plumbing system. Backflow is dangerous because it can cause contamination of clean drinking water.
What is a Backflow Preventer?
A Backflow Preventer is a device that consists of a pair of mechanical check valves that prevents contaminated water from flowing backwards into your property or water mains. It takes unsafe water that may contain chemicals, pesticides, feces and other hazardous materials that may cause health risk, and diverts it away from your property, keeping the unsafe water from re-entering.
Backflow valves must be inspected annually to make sure that your device is working properly and efficiently. Reference to the Backflow Preventers that are used for fire system; The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) requires businesses to complete regular backflow preventer inspection and testing to document accurate operation. This testing should only be performed by a certified industry professional.
Backflow Preventer Inspection & Testing
A forward flow test must be completed annually at the designed flow rate, including hose stream demand, where hydrants or inside hose stations are located downstream of the backflow preventer. The highest demand gallons per minute (GPMs) with the hose allowance should be applied. This test was created to verify the system can be served by enough water in a fire condition.
A backflow performance test, as required by the authority having jurisdiction, shall be conducted annually at the completion of the forward flow test.
INCOMA offers comprehensive inspection services such as:
Check small components for wear or disrepair
Confirm that device installation is up to code and meets facility needs
Perform stress tests
Valve check
These mechanisms are under constant pressure, making them vulnerable to failure. Inspection and testing are necessary steps to check for components in need of repair or replacement.
